—This isn't the only post they have made. On 11-19-2007 Doggydd made a comment saying how much the service sucked but how they couldn't complain about the food and had been going there for over a year. This implies "doggydd" did not work there in November, but somehow worked in between that post and this one. Either a disgruntled new employee that didn't work out or something else?

2008-01-22 23:29:32   Ate at Crepeville tonight. I ordered the California crepe, but with pesto (instead of the tomato pesto). It was delicious. The house potatoes were awesome. I do believe that I had the perfect potato tonight. They were busy, but the service was still good. I ate with my dinner-buddy and left so I can't say anything about the studying situation. However, I did notice quite a few studiers even though the place was pretty busy. So I guess it just depends on who is working. —CurlyGirl26

It seems like every place serving breakfast nowadays allows you to sub fruit, cottage cheese, etc. for potatoes. It's a big part of staying healthy. I thought I would be asked to leave, but instead I was only asked to move to a bar seat since there was a huge party of people (20+) coming in. The owner (I think?) apologized to me when he asked me to move, which was really nice, and offer me a coffee refill. I don't know if it is owned by the same people or one is a knock off of the other but they are the SAME restaurant. The menus are even written in the same artistic colored chalk. 2008-02-19 01:28:53   Oh man. I had mad cravings for crepe and Ive seen this place more than once. So I decided to come here for lunch and give it a go. I ordered the strawberry nutella crepe and that REALLY hit the spot. It was warm and crispy and the nutella and strawberry was so DELICIOUS! I came back here a second time and ordered a chicken pesto crepe. Their potatoes are to die for. Never once have we experienced any bad services. Maybe because both times I came here it was never ever busy. In fact they were nice. One advice though. Stay away from the blintzes. I didn't know what it was and decided to give it a try. It was okay, but It wasnt what I thought it was and was a little disappointed even for what it was. —chand3123k

However, I do second chand3123k comment that the blintzes are a miss, and as someone else mentioned it seems that they've started being a pain about substitutions (including charging extra for comparable swaps).. Really, is it that much to ask that I would prefer regular pesto instead of sun-dried tomato pesto on my California crepe? (I agree with CurlyGirl26 that this is a great combination!) —mj

I couldn't get past a few bites. It was just terrible. I think it's me though because I didn't pay attention when ordering and ended up with some tomato/clam sauce that just made me feel like hurling. Oh, did I mention that I don't like tomatoes? Next time I'm trying one of the other pastas (with an alfredo sauce). One thing I never tire of is their Greek salad. It's huge and delicious. 2008-03-20 15:56:23   crepeville is delicious. my roommate and i have taken our friends from socal here and they loved it! we also recommended to other friends and they really enjoyed this place. its awesome that they have a large selection both sweet and salty crepes. on top of that, they have burgers,salads and pasta. i always make my own crepe. but the chicken pesto is really yummy as well. not only are the crepes delicious, but they give you a side of potatoes! it is always busy and packed with people, you will always see people studying in there or just relaxing —jentruong

2008-05-04 14:02:48   I went there for breakfast and witnessed a true episode of assholery on the part of the owner. He yelled at one of the waitresses in front of a good dozen customers waiting to place their orders and made her run off crying. When I told him I thought that was unnecessary he started to justify himself by saying that she made the coffee wrong and he had been teaching "these kids" this for 3 years. (Incidentally, the coffee tasted just fine.) I told him that I didn't really care what was going on, but I didn't want to see that kind of drama when I'm out for breakfast and it's really quite rude to treat people that way. Besides, you'd expect that sort of treatment if she had done something major, like insulted a customer, and taking her aside in private would be every bit as effective. He then asked us what we were here for and became very rude towards us, though the waitress who delivered our food to us was very nice. In general I've found their waitresses to be nice, helpful, and quite competent. —DanaMace

I've tried many of the crepes and they are all pretty good, though in the California, the onions are not cooked enough, so now I just ask for mushrooms instead. I like their idea of crepes, but really, I wish they were more Parisian. The best crepe here is not exactly on the menu. I order the strawberry crepe, but instead of the strawberries that come with it I ask for warmed ones that come on the other crepe with the nutella. These strawberries are warmed in a pan with brown sugar and lemon juice. They serve it with whipped cream. The tartness mixed with the sweetness makes my mouth water just writing about it. —JamieParker

Re: Credit cards. A while back, I had a conversation with the owner about his cash only policy. He told me the reason he maintains it is because of cost. According to him, he can keep his prices lower not allowing credit cards. He said something to the affect of, "Why should everyone be punished because a few people are too lazy to bring cash?" —CurlyGirl26


2008-05-31 17:52:07   I've only ever been here twice before and that was over five years ago, so I decided to give it a try at some point again. Today, I was nearby and saw that it wasn't busy, so I figured I'd might as well go. I ordered the Greek crepe and took my seat. After an 15+ minute wait, I got my food (I'm not sure if thats slow for them or not, but I was reading a book, so I didn't mind). The crepe was pretty good, but I was quite turned off by the presentation. The crepe looked great and tasted as such, but was served aside a bed of burnt potatoes. I expected them browned, and I do prefer my potatoes on the crispier side, but these were completely charred. I had to pick through to find the ones that weren't blackened but still managed to accidentally eat several that were burnt on the bottom. Sort of clashed with the yummy crepe. The idea of being tickled and punched at the same time comes to mind. And to add to the disappointment of the potatoes (I really love potatoes, so even though they were a side, I was looking forward to some nice browned potatoes), one of the wait staff (busboy?) came by 3 times within 15 or so minutes asking if I was finished or not. The first time was understandable because I had put down my fork to turn the page to my book, but the second time, I was actually lifting food to my mouth. The third time he came by, I let him take it (at that point, it was just the burnt potatoes that I was still picking through). Annoying, possibly, but its forgiven. I hear too much good about this place to just write it off so quickly.

I definitely will come back. I figure my visit was just a fluke that most businesses/restaurants have every now and then. —SunjeetBaadkar

It's not cheap, and let's be honest, it's hard to mess up crepes. I find it ridiculous that they only accept cash. The service is nothing great. 2008-07-27 18:59:40   I had no problems with the food (Chicken Curry was great), however the gal taking my order had horrible customer service skills (and was practically brain dead) it took a million times of repeating myself just to order my food, she kept talking, and interrupting me, with a customer behind me about just walking out and leaving early to go party (seriously on a tuesday night? do you really need to do that and or discuss that while having such difficulty taking an order??) he kept asking her to help him move in the meanwhile i just wanted her to take my damn order is that too much to ask for at a fucking restaurant so i said very slowly as if she were seriously challenged C-h-i-c-k-e-n C-u-r-r-y!!!!!!. I think her job description is clear take orders and ring people up etc... not ignore everyone except regular customer/friends. This was my first time at the Davis location and certainly won't go back when the brain dead gals are there in the evenings. —csmith

I actually have to say that I had gotten better help from the staff that don't really speak that much english than the distracted white gal taking the order... thats just sad and lame she needs to get a clue. But I would still recommend going just avoid the ditsy large breasted morons (no offense really just take the orders and do your jobs).

Why do you have to mention her breast size (or her race for that matter)? Not sure that her intelligence is connected to her body shape. This is a very misogynistic thing to say.


2008-07-27 20:04:43   The food here is very good. It's a good place to study. I love the WiFi. Lots of customizability in what you can order. Good prices too. Sometimes very crowded and hard to find a table. Usually crowded, but not too crowded to find seating. Often gets my order wrong - either leaves out something I ordered, or gives me something almost, but not entirely unlike, what I ordered. (Examples include items that are phonetically similar to the one that I ordered, or items that are cooked in a different way than I asked for, even if they are made from the same base ingredients.) Fortunately, they will usually correct the mistake. Unfortunately, they make a mistake almost 100% of the time. The problem seems to be in communication between the people who take the orders and the people who cook them (possibly due to linguistic issues). For example, recently, I repeated my order 4 times to one person, who did not seem to understand what I was asking for. Another person stepped in and took my order correctly (and correctly read my order back to me). But the item that was delivered was still not what I had asked for! It's a bit like asking for a blue car with an automatic transmission and getting a green car with a stick shift. Yes, it's still a car, but...

Management is aware of the problem, and when present, does their best to ensure that what I order is actually what is brought to my table. Unfortunately, despite the extra efforts at quality control, this place still holds the record by far for giving me something other than what I ordered.

Despite the quality control issue, I would still definitely recommend this place. —IDoNotExist


2008-08-14 21:47:04   Two weeks after my last comment...

The food is still good, although quality control continues to suffer. 100% of what I've ordered in the past few weeks has been missing an item that I ordered. The result is that I have it sent back to have the correct item added or cooked in, which adds up to 5 minutes to some items. Some examples: One type of crepe that I order has three items. Today, it came with two of the three items, and I had to send it back to get the third item included. About 5 minutes later, it came back with the item correctly included, although there was so much of this item in the crepe that it really spoiled the taste. (The item is supposed to be cooked into the crepe, but in this case, was not because it was added in afterwards.) In another item I ordered recently, I asked for two modifications to the standard item. One modification was made correctly (and actually, has been all but one time that I've ordered the item.) The other was not - and usually isn't.

I love this place, but I'm really getting frustrated with the ordering situation. I'm pretty sure that most of the problems are occurring in the kitchen, because the staff checks my order against the ticket they submitted to the kitchen, and the vast majority of the time, the ticket is correct but the food that they brought me is not. If you order something here, be sure to check that what you ordered is indeed what they brought you - especially if you order a "build your own" item of some kind. —IDoNotExist

I've gotten dozens of burritos there, and only had a mistake on an order once or twice. The sandwich area custom makes sandwiches, but again has made only one mistake out of many dozens of items. Most of the restaurants I've commented on on the wiki have made few or no mistakes with my order. —IDoNotExist

2008-10-02 14:30:31   Woooww. In the past, I've always enjoyed Crepeville's moderately priced, enormous meals, but as of last Saturday (the 27th), I AM NEVER GOING BACK. Like others have said, I find it slightly disturbing that the servers seem to only be attractive young women. Now I know why they choose to run their business that way.

Standing in line to order food, I witnessed a man (I assume, the manager) screaming loudly at a young woman working the register. It appeared to be regarding a scheduling conflict, yet he honestly yelled things along the lines of "you're fired, get the fuck out of here" and "have a great loser fucking life". I was not the only customer who saw this incident happen. The man was legitimately screaming at her!

I hope that this matter was later handled in a manner more civilized than what I saw, but from what I've heard about Crepeville's management, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. The way that this waitress was handled was extremely disturbing and from now on, I'll be taking my business somewhere where I know my money is going to good people.

The owner constantly try to flirt with the servers and yell horrible things at them. On one occasion he even called everyone working dumb (in crueler words). The employees are treated terribly and are consistently made to feel stupid. And yes, they are sexist and do tend to hire mostly, although no longer exclusively, attractive college women. 2008-10-06 09:22:47   Multiple comments from new accounts, or accounts that are not well established, with similar writing styles are often an indication that someone is attempting to pretend to post as multiple people on the wiki. Posting from the same IP address is another good indicator, because it means that the same machine was most likely used for both postings. Postings like this are often flagged on the wiki because the likelihood that the same person is posting twice, and therefore attempting to sway readers of the comments towards their particular point of view by making it appear that many people support that particular point of view, is very high.

I have no particular feelings for or against this restaurant beyond the quality of their food and their service. (In fact, if you look at my postings about Crepeville, you will see that I've got several issues with the restaurant, although I like the food.) But I have to say, I had breakfast at Crepeville last week and I was really put off by the outfits worn by the female servers. A couple of them were basically wearing "daisy dukes" shorts! Don't get me wrong, you can wear your shorts as short as you want on your own time, but not when you're preparing and serving breakfast for paying customers. Really really inappropriate. Doesn't the management have any kind of standards, or care that this is the image of their restaurant? —EGrace

2008-10-28 17:05:19   I'm amused by the comments about the waitresses. As far as I'm concerned, they could be wearing bikinis while serving me my food and I wouldn't care. I haven't had a bad service in the 5 times that I've gone, but I wouldn't doubt some of these reviewers' experiences as every restaurant has shortcomings.

Now, onto the food part. Crepes are pretty tasty, but not worth the price. The food cost to create a crepe dish probably does not exceed 2 dollars, yet the average price for the crepe dishes is like 8 dollars. Despite the prices, Crepeville is a restaurant worth visiting once in a while. —BenLee

Also, they have electricity, maintenance, labor, insurance, and other costs. So I doubt that their profits are quite as high as the cost of the ingredients might suggest. 2008-10-28 18:09:09   the brown sugar with lemon crepe is the best ever! the only bad thing is it's either a hit or miss. somedays it taste great and other days it's horrible. the sugar would still be in large clumps and unmelted. the soups here aren't that great either. they always remind me of that mushy congee stuff served on china airlines even though what i ordered was chicken jambalaya and chicken and rice soup. —skinnyfatgirl

Besides the fact that she didn't know the menu, she made a simple request of a green salad instead of potatoes into a huge ordeal. Also, although clothing does not effect service, the employees need to wear suitable and professional wear (shirts showing midrift and backs isn't appropriate by my standards, and I've been in the restaurant business for years...).
