Hackberries (Celtis spp.) are about 60 to 70 species of trees in the hemp family. Several species are commonly grown ornamentally, and the berries of some are edible when ripe. Hackberry wood is considered valuable as well.

Sugarberry (Celtis laevigata) is a California native tree found in riparian areas in Sacramento. It has not been documented in Yolo County, but finding one in West Sacramento would not be altogether surprising. Sugarberry can grow as much as 80 feet tall.
