Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical

A full length musical being put on by student run theater group, Studio 301 Productions.

"Hair tells the story of the "tribe", a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War. Claude, his good friend Berger, their roommate Sheila and their friends struggle to balance their young lives, loves and the sexual revolution with their rebellion against the war and their conservative parents and society. Ultimately, Claude must decide whether to resist the draft as his friends have done, or to compromise his pacifistic principles and risk his life by serving in Vietnam." In essence, this play is highly political, and stresses activism and fighting for rights. Aligning perfectly with the current protests students all over California have been organizing over budget cuts and fee increases.

This is an outdoor performance on a beautiful grassy area in the Arboretum, so please remember to dress warmly and bring blankets, chairs or cushions to sit on.

Here are more detailed directions to the Gazebo: To the Gazebo (at the Carolee Shields White Flower Garden):

Take I-80 to the UC Davis exit. Go north into central campus. Turn left at the first opportunity (California). Go straight across the creek, then turn left on La Rue Road. Continue on La Rue, turn left on Garrod Drive and turn left again at the intersection (this will allow you to stay on Garrod Drive). Follow Garrod until the road slightly curves and you see the Gazebo on your left.

(You can also access this location from Highway 113—exit off of Hutchison toward campus, turn right onto La Rue and then right onto Garrod...and then follow the directions from above).

Check out the Arboretum's website for a map: http://arboretum.ucdavis.edu/directions.aspx Our performance takes place where it's marked "Gazebo." Parking is available in Visitor Lots 54 and 55 or on the street. *show has brief nudity and mature content
