Veterans’ Memorial Theatre

203 E 14th Street, Davis, CA

The Davis Live Music Collective is proud to present Horse Feathers with special guests River Whyless at The City of Davis Veterans’ Memorial Theatre, Wednesday October 14th, 8pm.

Tickets are $15, available online at davislivemusic.com or at Armadillo Music in Davis. Portland, Oregon’s Horse Feathers is the decade-spanning folk music collaboration lead by Justin Ringle. Building on years of successful touring and recording creatively haunting melodies, Ringle cultivates a new sense of freedom on his latest album So It Is With Us. Influenced by artists like Talk Talk, Paul Simon, The Band, Van Morrison, and John Wesley Harding era Bob Dylan, Ringle enlisted trusted friends along with longtime bandmates and began playing and writing. “I finally arrived at the enlightened idea that maybe [playing] should be a little more fun…”

“We played an impromptu show at Sasquatch and people liked it. We liked it, and the unusual feeling that I had after that show – which I think is referred to as ‘joy’ – became something I wanted to experience again… The joy of playing live became its own reward, and I dared myself to allow that joy to shape the songwriting. In the end, I was able to let it go, and I don't own it anymore. Which also feels like joy.”

River Whyless is a band much like the body of water running through Asheville, North Carolina from which it takes its name - a mingling of currents, a flow of time and physical space, all brought together in a murmuring sense of purpose. It is the expression of a group of musicians - Ryan O'Keefe (guitars, vocals), Halli Anderson (violin, vocals), Alex McWalters (drums, percussion) and Daniel Shearin (bass, vocals, harmonium, cello, banjo) - who have played together in various forms since their college days in the North Carolina mountains.

The Davis Live Music Collective is a non-profit, volunteer organization formed in 2011 to curate, promote and host quality live music events in Davis, CA. They have presented established and rising acts including Camper Van Beethoven, Ben Sollee, Jolie Holland, Elephant Revival, Typhoon, Spirit Family Reunion, Brothers Comatose, The Muffs, Sylvan Esso and more.
