Denis H. White Jr is a Sacramento DUI attorney that limits his practice to exclusively DUI defense, with 24 years of CA State BAR membership and over 1600 DUI cases handled in the greater Sacramento area.

He doesn't limit his service area to Sacramento, however. He's helped  a large number of clients in Yolo County prevent DUI charges from ruining their lives and futures.

A Message from Denis: We're not trying to get business. We're trying to prevent student DUI arrests.

My message is “Have fun but don’t drink and drive.”  No one will listen to me if I preach abstinence.  So instead, I’ve focused on alternatives to driving after drinking like Lyft and Uber.

As a father, I’m sensitive to the difficulties students and their families face with respect to job opportunities, etc. after the time and expense of a college education.

In my practice, I noticed an unusually high number of UCD students getting arrested for DUI, in comparison to all the other colleges in the area combined.  With that in mind, I thought maybe I could have an impact in reducing the numbers by having more contact with the student population before they make the mistake of getting behind the wheel after drinking, instead of afterwards when they need legal representation.

With the assistance of the UC Davis Student Health and Counseling Services office, I spent a couple of days during the week leading up to Picnic Day 2018 at a table, behind the MU, talking about the dangers of drinking and driving.

I suspect that most people don’t know how they feel at different breath or blood alcohol levels.  In an effort to show them, we put on another event at Bistro 33 in Davis, CA on 2/18/18.  We invited 5 individuals to drink in a controlled situation and breath tested them 15 minutes after each drink was finished.  I had them perform a Field Sobriety Test as well.  It was meant to be educational and informative and fun at the same time.  I think it was a success.

Everything has been done at my own expense, and I am not looking for business from the student population, especially at UCD.  I limit my practice to DUI defense and even with that, I very rarely accept felony cases or clients with too many past DUIs.  Although DUI cases are criminal in nature, I find that most of the people I work with have simply suffered an error in judgement.

If you or anyone else has an event or get together,  where they are interested in having me show up with an AlcoSensor IV breath machine like CHP uses in my area, let me know and I’ll do my best to do something like we did at Bistro 33.

Yolo County DUI Awareness Events

Denis recently noticed that a large number of his Yolo County clients are college students from UC Davis, and has made it a mission of his to reduce the number of UC Davis student DUI arrests in the area by promoting awareness in 2018.

Bistro 33 x Yelp DUI Awareness Workshop - February 18, 2018

To prevent DUI's in Davis, he held an free workshop downtown at Bistro 33 in which participants drank their usual alcoholic beverages but took a breathalyzer test after every round. Each subject guessed their BAC and compared the estimate against the actual results from the police issued device used by Denis.

Denis also took the time to answer DUI related questions from the audience to clear up any confusion on how the county laws were being interpreted by officers and prosecution.

Picnic Day Scholarship -  April 17th, 2018

In his second event, Denis held a scholarship for UC Davis students to promote alcohol awareness. Participants had to film themselves taking a field sobriety test after drinking (to see if they would pass) .

The point of this was to show how hard it is to pass a standardized field sobriety test while sober, much less drunk.

Davis Trinity - Bar Crawl Experiment - May 4th, 2018

Denis noticed that a lot of his UCD student DUI cases involved driving after going bar hopping in Downtown Davis, so he ran an experiment to estimate the effects of alcohol after the infamous Davis Trinity

Denis completed the Trinity with two UCD volunteers (1 grad  & 1 undergrad) to illustrate how easy it is to reach the legal limit of .08 BAC.
