It's a pretty good bet that most banks and many credit unions offer safe deposit boxes. How big are they and how much do they cost? What sort of account, if any, does one have to have with the bank in order to open up a safe deposit box? Good questions! I don't know! WIKI PROJECT TIME! Choose one of the banks below, call them up, and tell us what you find out!

  • Bank of America Has them. You have to have an account. Fees are per year, size is in inches, 2x5x14 is $61, 3x3x14 is $71, 5x5x14 is $87.
  • Chase - has them, charges set-up fee for "free deposit box w/certain account types"
  • First Northern Bank- has them, rates? Lots of sizes! All rates are annual: 2x5 is $35, 3x5 is $40, 5x5 is $55, 5x10 is $95, 10x10 is $140.  You have to have an account, and account has to have cash activity (counter/ATM, not automatic ) every 6 months.
  • Golden 1 Credit Union Doesn't offer safe deposit boxes at their Davis branch.
  • Premier West Bank this is a "departed business"
  • River City Bank Has them. You have to have an account.  All boxes 3x10x22, $80/year. Very nice to talk to.
  • Travis Credit Union — Has safe deposit boxes. Rates?
  • US Bank
  • Union Bank — Has safe deposit boxes. Rates?
  • USE Credit Union Doesn't offer safe deposit boxes at their Davis branch.
  • Wells Fargo - has them at the downtown location. $20 key deposit (one time fee), box rates start from $35/year. You need an account there to get a box.
  • Yolo Federal Credit Union Has them.  You have to have an account. Annual rates are 2x5 is $30, 3x5 is $435, 54x5 is $40, x5 is $50 3x10 is $55,, 5x10 is S70, 10x10 is $110.
