Agrarian Effort, Agressive Effort or Ag for short, is one of three On Campus Co-ops. It features a porch, a collection of dvds, vinyl, vcr, and books and zines. Behind the house is a large organic garden where Tri Co-opers grow produce, native plants, and flowers. The Co-op is managed by Solar Community Housing Association (SCHA), but run by students. The rent is fairly stable and will increase only with the consent of the residents. While affordability is subjective, its legal status as affordable housing makes it one of the cheapest options in Davis, especially so for being on campus. Living in a co-op also offers a lot of food security, because part of the months board is paid into a house account that is then used to buy collective groceries. Housemates are all responsible for household chores (of varying levels of physical and mental ability) and cooking/cleaning shifts. If you're interested in joining the co-op, you should stop by for dinner some time, served at 7 pm, Sunday through Thursday.

Agrarian Effort attempts to balance itself as both a home and safe space as well as an activist and queer community all at once. The residents living in the house (13 or 14 at a time) engage with each other on political, intellectual, social and intimate levels.
Individuals of diverse racial, ethnic, socio-economic backgrounds, gender identities, faiths, sexualities, survivor statuses, accessibility needs, and ages compose the population at the the Tri Co-ops. Ag works on balancing being a safe space and an educational space.
While we do recognize some discomfort in unlearning oppressive behaviors, Agrarian Effort does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia, misogyny, anti-semitism, orientalism, ableism, sizeism, ageism, or cultural appropriation.
We're located across from the Regan Hall dorms in Segundo and next to Cruess hall. If you enter from behind the houses, you will pass through the garden..
Ag Effort was founded in 1969 when UCD offered the 4 houses which are now the On Campus Co-ops and The House to student clubs. These craftsman style houses were originally located on A street and inhabited by professors, but were moved to make room for new construction on the east side of campus.
The student club Agrarian Action was given Temporary Building 15 and over an acre of land to use. The Student Housing office was built on a significant portion of the club's land in the early 1990's, but nearly 2/3 of an acre are still used as organic gardens by the Tri Co-op community.
Co-op members were instrumental in founding several local institutions including the Davis Farmers Market, the Sunwise Co-op, SCHA, and the Davis Food Co-op.
It's my understanding that it was Davis Student Co-op that started Sunwise. This should probably go on their page-ColinWalsh
- It's possible that the divisions among residents of Tri-Co-ops were just as rigid then as now ;) So, DSC should get credit, but perhaps not to the exclusion of any for Ag Effort. —DougWalter
