There used to be a mural depicting the Davis Arch (also long gone) that was painted in 1976 on the north side of the Hotel Aggie/Terminal Hotel. The hotel was on the northeast corner of 2nd and G Street, and the mural could be seen from the Davis Lumber parking lot. The mural was destroyed in 2000.
For more information on the hotel and the mural, see John Lofland's Demolishing a Historic Hotel: A Sociology of Preservation Failures in Davis, California.

2005-01-11 18:20:25 Yep, it's gone. So much for Davis' "commitment" to public art. Terry Buckendorf did this mural, as well as another one depicting SF's Columbus Cafe that is on the west side of the building housing Carousel Stationery. —CentralDavisite
2005-02-04 00:11:24 According to an old City of Davis .pdf , the real Arch was removed due to increasing automobile traffic in the 1920s. —RaynatoCastro

2005-02-19 11:42:35 Where were the arches located? —KayRide
2005-02-19 11:59:19 On G St, but I don't know where on G St. —JasonAller
2005-02-19 16:19:47 The answer's actually in the mural itself. It spanned the southwest to northwest corners of Second and G; the mural shows a view through the arch looking west, with the Anderson Bank Building on the right. Downtown back then was G Street; everything west of that was residential. The Arch was only in existence for less than a decade. —CentralDavisite
2006-03-15 00:11:43 Note the Natural Food Works store at the northwest corner (206 G Street). —SteveDavison
2007-04-16 21:47:00 Gosh I miss that mural. It isn't the same downtown with out it. I sat on that wood beam all the time as a teen. Good memories!!!

2014-08-16 10:24:15 I want a committee to restore the real Davis Arch! :-)

2014-08-16 13:10:58 I agree with Constantia, but it should be in a place with more traffic so people will see the Davis glory. Maybe we could make the Richards Subway into an ArchTunnel? —chandru
