one of the Schools in the DJUSD

Martin Luther King High School is an continuation High School program serving students in Davis. A continuation high school ensures that students with diverse needs succeed in school and are supported in seeking better job opportunities or college. King High School is an option for students in need of more flexible school schedules with an emphasis on vocational or career goals. This program is designed to meet the needs of students aged 16 through 18 who have not graduated from high school, are not exempt from compulsory school attendance, are deemed at risk of not completing their schooling and have whom DSIS isn't a good fit. You could get credits at a very accelerated rate. It produces quality graduates (and a few non graduates)

Note that it is not the Martin Luther King, Jr. High School (presumably to avoid confusion with a Junior High School).

It is colloquially referred to as "King high" by the Davisites

Demolition and Construction

Destruction in early October 06

The site cleared on Oct 17th 2006

Framing in April 2007

In Fall 2006, King High moved across the street into available space at the Susan B. Anthony Building for one year while a completely new building is built on the site of the existing school. The 45-year old portable buildings were removed and will be replaced with a new school building specifically designed for King High's program needs. However, the school district halted construction in November after it discovered that it lacked funds to complete the job.

In the December 7, 2006 school board meeting, the results of an internal audit showed that the district actually does have enough money to cover the project but not all of it in hand. Allocating the funds for King High School immediately would deplete DJUSD's budget. Board members have not yet decided on what action to take. 1
