Andrew Broz is a 2010 graduate from UNT with a B.S. in mathematics. He was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nikolaev, Ukraine from March 2011 until June 2013. He is now living in San Francisco and works as a software engineer.

He spends his spare time (when he has spare time) reading, roaming, and drinking tea. He also has some exciting pass-times including, but not limited to: flying kites, foraging for mushrooms, programming, writing poetry and essays, learning languages, and performing on the cello (including Russian language rock music and English language pop).

What He Did Here

Andrew started this whole DentonWiki thing (inspired by the Davis Wiki). A few days after starting the site, RitchLudlow jumped in and contributed a huge amount to initial content development and advertising, making Ritch the cofounder.

Work at UNT

Andrew has been an officer of Glad, FMLA, and the FTA, as well as president of the UNT Math Club. He was also a 'cellist in the NOVA Ensemble for four years (to his knowledge, the only non-music major to have been in the ensemble at all). Every one of these organizations is awesome. He also worked in the math lab from fall of 2008 to spring of 2010. He graduated with a B.S. in mathematics and a minor in music.

Life After That

Andrew joined the Peace Corps and was sent to Ukraine in March of 2011. His primary project was teaching prep school students English in the city of Nikolaev (Mykolaiv). In addition, he taught courses in U.S. History and Culture and Creative Writing. He ran an English club at the Windows on America Center in the city library. He also ran film-making courses and Creative Writing courses at Petro Mohyla Black Sea State University. He maintained the International Outreach Coalition (IOC) website and developed curriculum for and worked as a counselor at the IOC camp MASCOT as well.

Besides his volunteer duties, he participated in a Russian language rock group 78 and wrote and directed a 15 minute Russian language film (English subtitles available). He was interviewed about the film on live television in Russian shortly before returning to the US.

He returned to Texas to paint a portrait of Ellen DeGeneres with a raccoon, followed by portraits of Miley Cyrus with an emu and Ru Paul with a pangolin. This did not help him find a job.

In the years since, he has held a string of software roles in Austin and San Francisco. If you're curious about his professional life, see his LinkedIn. For other hijinks, see his Twitter or his blog.
