A program to bring 15,000 young, educated people to downtown Detroit by 2015.
Three organizations are talking the lead in the project. Wayne State University, Henry Ford Health System, and the Detroit Medical Center. The Hudson-Webber Foundation, a long-term Midtown investor, also joined the group. All four are members of the Detroit affiliate of CEOs for Cities, a national nonprofit network of urban stakeholders.
The 15 by 15 group plans to focus on quality of life issues: transportation, retail development, education, housing, public safety and beautification. Some initial initiatives will include shuttle services, workforce development, and coordinating public safety work. The organizations also hope to align their individual development plans.
The College for Creative Studies is helping the public safety effort. The University Cultural Center Association is providing unspecified information.
The program may be the first in the country to set hard dates and goals for the number of people.
