A new magnet high school focused on at-risk students. The school is partnering with City Year, Talent Development and Communities in Schools. Detroit College Prep will be located with Northwestern High School. Classes will be organized on a block schedule, and the planned student-to-teacher ratio is 8:1.

The school is funded in large part by Michigan Future Inc.'s Michigan Future Schools program, which aims to open four new schools. The other schools founded by the program are the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, Cornerstone Health High School, and the Benjamin Carson School of Science and Medicine.
