The Garden Theatre is located on Woodward Avenue in Detroit near the Majestic Theatre complex. According to Susan Whitall it was also called the 509 Club before it also was called the Village. (The original 509 Club was originally further downtown then moved uptown into the old Garden Theater). In the late 1950s acts like Nolan Strong and the Diablos (of Fortune Records) played there. The Village was run more like a coffeehouse, with no liquor (the 509 was a regular bar, with liquor) and it was run by Steve and Gabe Glantz, who later ran the Grande Ballroom.
