In January 2010, Kim and Hollis Smith opened a produce store in Midtown at 4206 Woodward Ave (near the Detroit Medical Center). Hollis is also a police officer in a nearby suburb.
Kim's Produce featured local produce from Michigan producers, mainly bought from Eastern Market. They also had handmade pasta, tortillas, drinks and more. The store was brightly painted and constantly changing. They also expanded to offer hot soups, pie and more -- a bowl of chili (made with steak!) or the soup of the day was $3.99.
The shop closed (perhaps so that they could focus on raising a family, or perhaps because of a lack of traction), and transformed into a catering business that offered healthy, fresh options. As of late 2012, their website is inactive, and I think they are no longer operating.
