An elaborate Halloween masquerade staged in Detroit for over 10 years. Includes elements of a carnival, haunted house, and live local acts. Thousands of people usually attend, and the shows are highly planned. John Dunivant and Ken Poirier are co-founders.
For at least the first 10 years, the event was held in abandoned homes just south of the State Fairgrounds. In 2010, City officials told organizers that they would be cited for code violations. Previous events had not drawn significant attention from inspectors. The 2010 event was cancelled and replaced with a party at the Fillmore Detroit.
The 2011 event, "Initiation," is scheduled in the Masonic Temple and opens on October 22.
