A $20M cleanup was announced September 2 2011. The first portion is expected to take 18 months to remediate the western third of the area. MichCon, Michelin, and other companies will be contributing. George Jackson, president of the DEGC, helped organize those agreements.

Jerome Bettis is looking to build mixed-use projects on the site.

The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy expects to start extending the RiverWalk across the site in Spring 2012, which will finish the link from Downtown to Belle Isle.
