A failed project to build a new county jail in downtown Detroit. The project, originally budgeted to cost $300M or less, has cost more than $391. The site will probably be sold to Dan Gilbert's Rock Ventures for $50M.
The County and the Wayne County Building Authority are suing the contractors, AECOM Services of Michigan, AECOM Technical Services of Michigan, Ghafari Associates and the Walbridge-dck, for exceeding a $220M guaranteed price.
A one-person grand jury in the Wayne County Circuit Court is also investigating the project.
The new jail will probably be relocated to the currently unused, State-owned Mound Correctional Facility.
