Clarence St. is a northward continuation of the northern end of York Road, and leads towards the harbouPrince William, Duke of Clarence (1765-1837), who later became King William IVr.

Clarence Street was named after Prince William, Duke of Clarence (1765-1837), a brother of George IV.  Prince William later became King William IV and reigned for 7 years from 1830.

Clarence Street was once the main centre of the coal trade in Kingstown.
