The Hotel Ritz was a small hotel on San Pablo Ave. at Yerba Buena. The hotel opened in 1929, and was around until at least 1995.
The building was designed by Clay Burrell, and constructed by Jacobs and Pattiani for Richard S. Flaherty. It was leased by R.G. Rudolf, who managed the hotel. 1 It occupied the north end of the wedge-shaped block. The narrow south end was Syndicate Bank building, partly occupied by the Oakland Herald newspaper for a while.
In 1995, the building was damaged by a fire. 2 A few months later in 1996, it was damaged by another fire. 3
Today the block is the location of Avalon Senior Housing, managed by EBALDC.
