Welcome to the new LocalWiki region for Fort Worth!

Fort Worth is a city in North Central Texas. In the late 19th century, it became an important trading post for cowboys at the end of the Chisholm Trail. Today, it's a modern city, with international art institutions like the Kimbell Art Museum. The Fort Worth Stockyards are home to rodeos, and the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame honors pioneers.

cattle drives occur twice a day in the Stockyards National Historic District. Enjoy diverse restaurants, exciting nightlife, cultural institutions and sporting events. Entertaining kids is a snap in the “City of Cowboys and Culture,” courtesy of Six Flags Over Texas, the Fort Worth Zoo or the Noble Planetarium and Museum of Science and History. You can depend on friendly and helpful service - the hallmark of true Texas hospitality.

As a stop on the legendary Chisholm Trail, Fort Worth was developed by the business of the cattle drives and became a brawling, bustling town. Millions of head of cattle were driven north to market along this trail. Fort Worth became the center of the cattle drives, and later, the ranching industry. It was given the nickname of "Cowtown".

During Civil War, Fort Worth suffered from shortages of money, food, and supplies. the population dropped as low a 175, but began to recover during Reconstruction. By 1872, Jacob Samuels, William Jesse Boaz, and William Henry Davis had opened general stores. The next year Khleber M. Van Zandt established Tidball, Van Zandt, and Company, which became Fort Worth National Bank in 1884.
