Al Green (born Al Greene on April 13, 1946), is an American Gospel and Soul Music singer who grew up in Grand Rapids. Though born in Forrest City, AR, Green moved to Grand Rapids with his family in the mid-1950s. Green attended South High School and performed in several musical groups, including the Greene Brothers and Al Greene & the Creations. He recorded his debut solo album, Back Up Train, in 1967 - a year before moving away.
Green is one of the most successful Soul musicians in the United States, selling more than 20 million copies of his albums, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.1
