Alter Ego was a band formed in Grand Rapids MI in 1985 by Joe Botwinski (keyboards), David Ogilvie (lead vocals), Micheal Bouldin (drums) Walter Florido (bass) and Sean Fodor (guitar). Walter Florido was replaced in 1987 by bassist Micheal Perfitt.

Alter Ego’s single “Wicked Girls” was featured in 1988 on WKLQ’s “Make It or Break It”. A show that featured national major label acts where callers called in and voted if the featured song was good enough to be added into WKLQ’s regular rotation.

The song (Wicked Girls) was the first local unsigned band to be featured on the show. The song “made it” and was added to WKLQ’s late night rotation for 6 months.

That recognition earned Alter Ego the opening slot for Jane’s Addiction at Club Eastbrook (later named Orbit Room) for their “Nothing Shocking” tour in November of 1988 when promoter Alan Bashara heard their single “Wicked Girls” and asked the band to open for Jane’s Addiction which made them the first local band to ever play the Club Eastbrook stage.

WLAV’s legendary disc jockey Aris Hampers was at the James Addiction show and was so impressed with the band that he added their single Wicked Girls to his show’s rotation and asked Alter Ego to headline his first annual local band showcase at Club Eastbrook.

Alter Ego went on to open for iconic bands like Information Society, Figures on a Beach and Gordon Lightfoot as well as headlined shows at Club Eastbrook, The Intersection and Club Soda (Kalamazoo)

The band disbanded in 1990
