Located on the corner of Bridge and Broadway and later Fulton and Diamond, Arco Iris was perhaps the greatest/worst performance venue/coffee shop Grand Rapids has ever known. Started by a bunch of weirdo potheads, it was the center of true underground Grand Rapids culture at the turn of the century. It was a grungy dive where spontaneous noise happenings and drum circles fermented, and many of GR's more famous hipsters cut their teeth in various indie outfits. It was closed down in October of 2000.
