Asparagus is a fresh local food available in the Grand Rapids area roughly during the month of May. Oceana County, Michigan (40 miles northwest of Grand Rapids) is the Asparagus Capital of the World. The National Asparagus Festival is held in Hart and Shelby Michigan respectively.
