Frederick Slade Robinson (1870-1931) was born on 6 Nov 1870 in Grand Rapids, MI. In his lifetime, he was known as “one of the oldest and best known architects" of the Grand Rapids area, having designed and built many prominent local architectural highlights.
His father, William G. Robinson, was a prominent architect in his own right, and Robinson joined his father, going into business as W. G. & F. S. Robinson. Their architectural firm would go on to design "...some of the largest and most important structures in the community.”
Robinson received his public school education in Grand Rapids, then spent a year at Michigan State College, where he studied engineering. He later attended the first architectural school at Cornell University, graduating in 1897.
Upon the death of his father, Robinson started a new business partnership with Antoine B. Campau. This new firm, Robinson & Campau, “designed many of the city’s outstanding structure[s]....”
He died on 4 Nov 1931 of a heart attack at the home he designed and built himself only five years earlier, 258 College Ave SE.1
