On March 3, 1989 the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts presented Los Angeles-based Performance Artist John Malpede. Malpede performed a monologue of his own work and talked about his project, LAPD (the Los Angeles Poverty Department). LAPD is a performance group made up of homeless persons from LA. The group develops theatrical texts through improvisation and performs the resulting works. The event was held at the UICA building on Race Street.
