Morus spp. — known as mulberries.

Bush/shrub or tree with sweet white, red or black berries. Flavor can range from rather flat and tasteless to very bright and sweet. Fruit ripens in June. Colored fruit stains very strongly.

Dried mulberries are for sale at Harvest Health at Eastern and Burton.

Silk worms feed on mulberry leaves prior to spinning their cocoons and can be successfully raised on local mulberry leaves.

Locations

Mulberries grow everywhere in the city, probably spread by birds. Look especially in alleys and along roadways.
