History

In 2013, Dustin Keene opened Common Grounds. The coffee shop opened to fill up the remainder of the space in the building Keene’s production company known as Chronicles Video Productions was using.  With the idea in his mind that the neighborhood was in dire need of a coffee shop Common Grounds was born.

Overview

Common Grounds is a small coffee shop located at the intersection of South Elam Ave and Walker Ave. Along with serving coffee they also serve non-coffee beverages including alcohol along with food items such as muffins, bagels, and cookies. They are known for their specialty drinks named after celebrities most notably their drink named after actress Amy Adams. The back of the coffee shop holds a small arcade where customers can enjoy playing games. Common Grounds is an avid supporter of local businesses as they sell merchandise ranging from t-shirts to albums all made by local artists. Art pieces are displayed throughout the shop for customers to view and purchase, there is also a book swap that allows customers to bring in books for trade. Every week there is an open mic night where anyone is allowed to share their talents, whether it be a song or a poem all is welcome.
