Smith Street Diner was an American style diner located on the corner of West Smith St. and Battleground Ave.

About

The diner was opened by Beth Kizhnerman in 2006 and was a popular breakfast diner in Greensboro located downtown next to the Greensboro Grasshopper's stadium. The seating capacity of the restaurant is relatively small with the capacity only being about 65. Due to the small area, guests were encouraged to wait outside the restaurant for a table to open up. The restaurant had a commitment to sourcing most of its food to local farms and suppliers.

The restaurant was known for its objectively huge biscuits which were four times the size of standard biscuits you would get at other restaurants. The rest of the menu contained mainly breakfast foods like eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, etc. served all day. The menu also had a few dinner and lunch options like soups, sandwiches and fried chicken served after 12 PM.

The restaurant closed in October 2020 due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. The restaurant was forced to close for 67 days due to the stay-at-home order during the pandemic and was never able to reopen. A casualty of the Coronavirus pandemic, the restaurant was unable to adapt to the state mandates and stay open for business. In a statement by the owner Kizherman on the Facebook page, she said "I want to thank all our customers that have come through the red front door over the many years. I want to thank all the staff that have worked for me at the diner. It takes more than one person to make a successful restaurant". The location is currently up for sale.
