  • Agricultural production
  • Community food security
  • Supporting local farmers

Programs:

  • GAP & Food Safety: Food safety is an integral part to this organization's operation and is taken very seriously. GAP stands for Good Agricultural Practices, it is a manual that outlines the steps needed to follow the Food Safety Modernization Act. A food safety program was implemented in 2010 and has been continued since. The staff at the Southwest Virginia Farmers Market abide by these guidelines, and the vendors are expected to do the same
  • Hydro Cooling: The market has two hydro coolers that allow produce to be kept fresh for longer and remain at a safe temperature. This technology increases shelf life and quality of the produce
  • Senior Coupons- SFMNP: Eligible participants are given 8 $5.00 coupons to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables from local certified farmers. This is in effort to promote senior food security and health in the community.
