The Cavalier Hotel is an elegant hotel that was first opened in 1927 and two years later the Cavalier Beach Club opened up. The original hotel had 195 guest rooms and after the restoration in 2002 the hotel now has 400 guest rooms consists of two hotel buildings. The original Cavalier Hotel encompassed 350 acres of land, three quarters of that went to the golf course. The original Cavalier had very nice amenities. Some of those would include bathtubs with an option for a seawater bath, a spigot at the bathroom sink for ice cold water at all times, a large indoor pool, a beauty parlor, hair salon, and a gift shop. Seven United States Presidents have stayed at the Cavalier. People such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Bette Davis, and Will Rogers have also stayed at the Cavalier. Frank Sinatra, Bing Cosby, and Tomy Dorsey have all preformed at the Cavalier Beach Club. The Hotel was the place to be during the roaring twenties and was said have affiliation’s with local speak easies. This all ended when World War II started. The Hotel was taken over by The United States Navy and used as a training site for radars. The original Cavalier Hotel building or the one known as “the one on the hill” is rumored to be haunted. The Cavalier Hotel is still in use today. Today the Cavalier is often rented out for weddings or other events. Other guests rent rooms for the experience and some to see if the ghost rumors are true.  Some of the most popular ghost stories are the ghost of Adolph Coors, the little girl who died in the pool, and African American Bell hop who disappeared. The elevator is rumored to run on its own when no one is in it. This beautiful Cavalier Hotel is a unique piece to local history.
