Freak storm pummels area

SARANAC LAKE - A huge, swirling storm spread hurricane-force winds into northern New York early today — and winds of up to 60 miles per hour damaged houses, downed trees, and caused a number of power failures throughout the North Country.

At least two local houses were damaged -when nearby trees were blown down. The Daniel Finlayson residence at 16 McClelland St. sustained a damage when a tree fell against the rear of the house. The falling tree tore off a corner of the roof and part of the wall of the upper left-hand corner of the building. No injuries were reported…
