Alex's Grove was a roadhouse and gas station owned by Alex Terlizzi located at Merrill's Corners, near Loon Lake. Terlizzi had bought a bear cub he named Happy from a hunter who had shot it's mother. Tourists enjoyed feeding Happy ice cream, hot dogs, soft drinks and beer, and Happy when grown weighed almost 600 pounds.  Happy eventually broke out of his cage and attacked Mrs. Terlizzi; she was rescued by a passer by, and the bear was shot by it's owner the next day.

Alex's Grove later became Sparky's Tavern and then the Pine Grove Restaurant.
