Alonzo W. Moody, a pioneer Adirondack guide, who has been employed in that capacity on the William Rockefeller estate at Bay Pond for the past thirty-five years, died Saturday from a fracture at the base of the skull received in a fall down the cellar stairs. Mr. Moody Moody was seventy-two years old. His funeral which was held Tuesday was one of the largest in point of attendance that has been held in Saranac Lake in many years.

Malone Farmer, June 19, 1912

A local paper reported William Rockefeller to be at his Santa Clara preserve when Alonzo Moody, the old guide of the family, accidentally fell and fractured his skull a little over a week ago. Moody's funeral at Saranac Lake was notable for the thousands of beautiful flowers, among them many from the Rockefeller family. Mr. Percy Rockefeller and his son were present. The bearers were Paul Smith, Jr., John Redwood, Loren Newell, Isaiah Vosburgh and Charles Greenough. Mr. Moody was a favorite with the Rockefeller family and had been guide, counselor and forest mentor of all William Rockefeller's children and grandchildren.
