Art Buck, pharmacist, dies at 86

SARANAC LAKE - Arthur O. Buck of 18 Franklin Avenue, died Saturday evening at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.

Mr. Buck had been owner and operator of the Post Office Pharmacy from 1935 to 1947, and had continued to work in the pharmacy until 1978. He was also the administrator of the General Hospital of Saranac Lake from 1965 to 1967, and worked as the hospital pharmacist for eight years before retiring in 1978.

He was born March 24, 1894 in Hudson Falls, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur G. Buck.

Survivors include his wife, the former Dorothy Meinecke, whom he married in 1916 and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Buck, a graduate of Brooklyn College.of Pharmacy in 1913, had been an area resident since 1921.

He was a member of Whiteface' Mountain Chapter Free and Accepted Masons sirice 1923, a member, of the Wanetta Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Saranac Lake, the Adirondack Commandery, the Adirondack Shrine Chapter Oriental Temple of the Shrine and a member of BPOE 1508 Elks.

As a member of the local Rotary Club, he was given the Paul Harris Fellowship award, for his "valuable public service to his community as a Rotarian."

Calling hours will be at the Fortune Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., today.

There will be an Elks service at 7:30, followed by a Masonic Service at 8. The funeral service is set for 2 p.m., tomorrow at the funeral home, with Rev. Richard Chatterton, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will be in the Moss Street Cemetery in Hudson Falls.

Donations may be sent to the Head Start Program or a favorite charity in his name.
