August 6th / 1930 Wednesday

Dear Ceil,

Received your letter this morning. I was glad to hear from you. I receive much mail, but that’s all you live for from day to day. Yesterday I didn’t receive any so naturally I was disappointed. You say you have a cold, well you want to be careful. You know how easily I got sick.

What made you tell the C.W. (child welfare) you were working. Or did you? How did they find out? You know that only makes it harder to get the money. Well I hope you get it anyway.

I would like to receive The Ring. It is interesting and helps pass the time.

I haven’t seen the doctor since. I think maybe he will be in today.

So, the baby weights 16 ½ lbs. Well she is gaining every day. How is James & Jackie? I suppose they’re alright.

I think Mary & Cela and maybe Ella are coming up Saturday.

I will be up here two weeks Thursday. Time flys alright. I wish my cure was completed and I was on the way home. But it is the will of God I suppose. I should like you to make a novena or have one made for me. I don’t know how long I am going to be in bed, but I seem to be stronger than when I first came up here.

The food here is very good and I guess I won’t have much trouble putting on weight. I only weigh 161 now, so you see how much I lost.

I’ll have to close now, with the best of luck,

Jack
