Barbara Skerritt was a teacher in Albany. Barbara and Paul had a camp on Middle Saranac Lake for many years and retired to the village of Saranac Lake. Barbara was a member of the Reviewers Club and served on the Board of Historic Saranac Lake.

SARANAC LAKE -- Barbara Skerritt, 79, of 37 Clinton Ave., Saranac Lake, died Thursday, May 24, 2001 at her home.

Born on Aug. 12, 1921, in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of J. Howard and Evelyn (Georgia) Clark.

She was married to Paul Skerritt in 1945 in Waverly by the Rev. Tigh.

Mrs. Skerritt was a resident of Saranac Lake since 1980. Prior to that, she was a resident of Guilderland from 1945 to 1980, where she worked in the Albany Public School system as a teacher and later as a guidance counselor until her retirement in 1974.

Mrs. Skerritt was a member of and past president of the Saranac Lake Free Library Board of Directors and had also worked in the Adirondack Room at the library. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake.

Survivors include her husband, Paul, of Saranac Lake; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, including Josh, of Oregon, Erin and Alex, of Kent, Wash.

She was predeceased by a brother-in-law, David C. Skerritt.

Calling hours are scheduled at 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May; 29 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, at the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake with the Rev. William Neil officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist .Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home
