Ben Vaughn Branscomb is a pioneering pulmonologist and distinguished professor emeritus at University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Branscomb cured for TB at the Trudeau Sanatorium in the late 1940s. While there began his training as a pulmonary physiologist. He went on to pioneer the study of pulmonary function at the National Heart Institute (now the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute).
Branscomb likely arrived in Saranac Lake in 1948. His daughter, Louisa, was born in Saranac Lake in 1949, most likely at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake. They left the area in 1950 or 1951. The phone book lists them at 32 East Pine Street, which is now 75 Forest Hill Road.
