Benjamin E. Rieck was a World War II veteran.   He was a son of Benjamin and Cleo (Swinyer) Rieck.

SARANAC LAKE Benjamin E. Rieck, 73, of St. Regis Avenue, Bloomingdale, died Thursday, Dec. 21, 1995 at the Adirondack Medical Center of Saranac Lake.

Born Dec. 29, 1921 in Bloomingdale, he was a son of Benjamin and Cleo (Swinyer) Rieck.

Mr. Rieck was a 1940 graduate of Bloomingdale High School and a 1942 graduate of the School of Aviation in Utica. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Navy. Upon returning from the war in 1945 he worked as a salesman for A.P. Smith until 1948. He was a salesman for M.B. Norman, wholesale grocery, from. 1948 to 1995. He served several terms as mayor of Bloomingdale and was a councilman for the St. Armand Town Board, He was a member of the Bloomingdale Fire Department for many years, serving as chief in the 1950s. He was a member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus, Father Peter Ward Chapter in Bloomingdale, and was a member of the Bloomingdale baseball team, known as the Firemen. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and camping.

He married the former Gloria Bedore June 9, 1956 in Holy Name Church in Tupper Lake. Survivors include his wife; a sister, Theo Feeney of Clifton Park; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Archie, and two sisters, Betty Towne and Thelma Rieck, predeceased him.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Bible vigil will be said at 8 tonight with the Knights of Columbus in attendance. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale, with the Rev. Joseph Trombley, pastor; officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery in Bloomingdale in May.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad or the American Heart Association in care.of the funeral home.
