Benjamin R. Moody was the son of Smith Moody and a grandson of Jacob Smith Moody. He was born at 150 River Street, and lived there for many years. He was a guide and a prominent citizen who served as justice of the peace.

Last of Saranac Lake's Pioneers Buried Tuesday

Funeral services for Benjamin R. Moody, renowned Adirondack guide and lumberman, and one of Saranac Lake's oldest residents, were held from his home, 157 River street Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. Frank W. Bevan, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, conducted the final services. Interment was in Pine Ridge cemetery.

Pallbearers for Mr. Moody were his son, Benjamin O. Moody, and four stepsons, Harry Frank, Samuel and Ernest Sheldon, and Harold Sheldon, his grandson of New York city.

In addition to the survivors listed above, the deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Daisy Sheldon, a daughter, and one brother, James W. Moody of Saranac Lake.

With Mr. Moody's death, one of the last of the pioneers who was instrumental in forging the history of Saranac Lake has passed on. He was a grandson of Jacob Smith Moody, reputed by historians as the first settler in the Saranac Lake region.
