Caroline M. Phelps Stokes, known in the family as Carrie, was a daughter of Anson Phelps Stokes. When Caroline M.'s father died in 1913, her name was given as Mrs. Caroline Hunter of Noroton Heights, Conn.
Caroline M. is easily confused with her father's sister, Caroline Phelps Stokes (1854-1909), a donor to the Phelps Stokes Fund and author of Travels of a Lady's Maid (c. 1908).
