Local businessman dies
SARANAC LAKE -- Charles J. DeLancett, 55, of 11 Winona Avenue, died Tuesday morning, June 24, at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.
He was born November 12, 1924, the son of Nelson and Nellie Miller DeLancett. He is survived by his wife, the former Anna Pinto; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Regina Moody of Saranac Lake; three grandchildren; a brother, John of Saranac Lake; and a nephew, Charles N., also of Saranac Lake.
Mr. DeLancett was a resident of the area for most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy and, he was a member of the VFW. He graduated from Paul Smith's College school of forestry in 1949.
Mr. DeLancett was a member of Whiteface Mountain Lodge No. 789, F&AM with 28 years perfect attendance and, he was raised in the lodge in 1948 and twice master. At the time of his death, he was the secretary of the lodge. He was Assistant Grand Lecturer from 1966 to 1969; District Deputy Grand District Deputy Grand Master of Franklin and Hamilton District, member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Troy, member of the Albany Sovereign Consistory, member of Oriental Temple of the Shrine, and a member and secretary of the Adirondack Shrine Club.
He was also a member and one of the directors of the High Peaks Recreation Club and had taught boat and hunter safety through the DEC for many years.
Mr. DeLancett was the co-owner and operator of the Mainline Garage for 24 years with his brother, John.
Calling hours will be at the Fortune Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.
A Masonic service will be said Thursday at 8 p.m.
Interment will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery.
