Charles R. Wooters II

SARANAC LAKE — Charles R. Wooters II, 76, of Upper Saranac Lake and Larchmont, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 1996 at; the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born Nov. 26, 1919 in Easton, Md. he was the son of John Dukes and lrene (Maloney) Wooters.

Mr. Wooters was a 1940 graduate of Portsmouth Priory, Portsmouth, R.I, and a 1944 graduate of Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va. He was a lieutenant in the coast guard in WWll. He saw action in the South Pacific and was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired as a textile executive with Greenwood Mills, New York City. He was a member of St. Augustine's Church, Larchmont and was a life member of the Larchmont Yacht Club.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Margaret Slaughter; eight children, Dorann Schneider of Pensacola, Fla., Pat Pedersen of Norwalk, Conn., Susan Campbell of Larchmont, Charles R. Wooters Jr. of Silver Spring, Md., John D. Wooters III of Morristown, N.J., Lawrence S. Wooters of New Canaan, Conn., Lucy McCarthy of Herndon, Va., and William H. Wooters of White Plains; a brother, John Dukes Wooters Jr. of Green Valley, Ariz.; 22 grandchildren; and five nieces.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, with a Bible vigil at 8:45 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Church in Lake Clear. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Lake Clear.
