Chesley's Store was founded by Isaac Chesley about 1877. After his death in 1888, it continued under a number of different owners and names.

On Thursday morning of last week a fire broke out in the store occupied by CHESLEY & STICKNEY, general merchants at Bloomingdale, and owned by Mrs. E K. DERBY, and was entirely destroyed together with most of the stock. The fire spread to the residence of Mr. STICKNEY and the barns and the storehouses occupied by the firm, all of which were consumed, but the contents were saved. Other buildings near also caught, but by hard work they were saved. Mrs. DERBY'S loss is estimated at about $1,500 which was partially covered by insurance. Messrs. CHESLEY & KEMPTON succeeded in saving a part of the goods on the first floor, but those on the second floor were lost Their stock was valued at between $10,000 and $12,000, upon which there was an insurance of $5,100 at the agency of S. B. SKINNER in this village. The fire is supposed to have caught from the stove-pipe in the second story.

Mrs. I. CHESLEY has sold her interest in the store and mercantile business of CHESLEY & BARNARD to Mr. BARNARD. From the time of Mr. CHESNEY'S death the business has been entirely under the management of Mr. BARNARD, and Mrs. CHESLEY is warm in commendation of the fidelity and honor he has shown in entire transaction. He is a young man of business ability and high character and has many friends m Malone who will wish him a large prosperity.
