Cleophas E. McCasland was a World War II veteran.  He was a son of Walter and Evelyn (Santo) McCasland.

SARANAC LAKE - Cleophas McCasland of 34 Petrova Ave., and a resident of Saranac Lake for more than 50 years, died Saturday morning, March 31, at the General Hospital of Saranac Lake.

He was born in Clintonville, the son of Walter and Evelyn (Santo) McCasland.

Mr. McCasIand was an electrician and had worked for Paul Smith's Electric and Niagara Mohawk Power Company for 37 years, retiring in 1973.

He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United Stales Army in Africa and Europe.

A life member of the Saranac Lake Elks Lodge 1508, he was also a member of the American Legion, the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club and the Utilities Employees Association.

Survivors include his wife of Saranac Lake, the former Eileen Wheelock whom he wed in 1951; a son, Harry J. Stuart of Lennox. Mass.; three brothers, Raymond and Harold, both of Saranac Lake and Kenneth of Foxboro, Mass.; a sister. Dorothy McLaughlin of Saranac Lake; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

An Elks service and Bible vigil were held yesterday, and a mass of resurrection was held at 11:15 a.m. today at St. Bernard's Church, with the Rev. Jon Yonkovig officiating.

Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in May.

Memorial donations may be made to the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad.
