SARANAC LAKE - Curtis Wamsganz, 83 , of 2 Forest Hill Ave., Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born on June 23,1916, he was the son of Henry and Mary (Straight) Wamsganz.

Mr. Wamsganz was a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake and was a 1934 graduate of the Saranac Lake High School.

He later bought the CBS Furniture Refinishing Business on Upper Broadway in Saranac Lake, where he.gradually included new furniture and appliances. As the business grew, he and Carl Kilroy became partners and-moved the store to the George L.Starks building on Broadway. He retired in 1982.

Mr. Wamsganz also had also operated the Skyview Ski Center in Saranac Lake on Donnelly's Hill with his brother, Ray, and friend, Joe Perry. The operation lasted from 1946 until the Mount Pisgah Ski Center opened several years later.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia (Shears) Wamsganz of Saranac Lake, whom he married at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake in 1951; two sons, Alan Wamsganz of Winooski, Vt.; one brother, Vernon Wamsganz of Burlington, Vt.; four grandchildren, Ladamir Pattison of Ithaca, Siena, Wesley and Alta Wamsganz of Saranac Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 15 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home Inc. in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 16. at the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Soucy officiating. Burial will take place in May in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Saranac Lake.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad or the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake in care of the funeral home.
