Richard Toohey

SARANAC LAKE - Richard Toohey of 9 Mountain Road died Tuesday afternoon at his home.

He was born July 30, 1932, the son of Martin and Helen (St.Mary) Toohey.

Survivors include his wife Margaret (Peggy) Walsh Toohey; a son Michael of Houston, Tex.; his mother, residing in Albany; three sisters, Mrs. Helen Peasley, Miss Rita Toohey, Miss Margaret Toohey; and a niece, Kathleen Toohey, all of Albany.

Mr. Toohey had been a resident of this area for most of his life and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Air Force.

He was a graduate of the Saranac Lake High School, Class of 1950.

He was employed by the Veterans Memorial Association for the past year, and had previously been a carrier for the Saranac Lake Post Office for 17 years.

He was a member of Elks Lodge 1508, a member of the Elks Bowling League and of American Legion Post 447.

A member of the Saranac Lake Bobsled Club, he had been a brakeman for Harley Webb's four-man bobsled team.

Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Fortune Funeral Home.

An Elk's service will be held at 7:30 this evening, followed by a Bible vigil service.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11:15 a.m., at St. Bernard's Church. The celebrant will be Father C. J. McAvoy.

Cremation will follow.

Donations may be made in Mr, Toohey's memory to the Saranac Lake Rescue Squad.
