Donald Sample was a patient in Saranac Lake in 1921. He was examined by the Canadian physician Dr. Hugh M. Kinghorn on January 23 that year and found to have moderately advanced T.B.  Sample himself, age 22, was from Montreal, Canada, and was living at 46 Franklin Avenue. His brother Paul Sample, an artist, came to visit him and was discovered to be ill himself.
