Dorothy McCasland McLaughlin was a World War II veteran.  She was a daughter of Walter and Evelyn (Santo) McCasland.

SARANAC LAKE -- Dorothy M. McLaughlin, 84, formerly of Lake Street, Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid.

Born May 10, 1912, in Clintonville, she was the daughter of Walter and Evelyn (Santo) McCasland.  She married Henry P. McLaughlin on Dec. 30, 1946. He died June 5, 1951.

Mrs. McLaughlin was a resident of Saranac Lake since 1924.

She graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1932 and graduated, from the Plattsburgh Business School.

She was employed as a secretary for several local businesses, including: Paul Smith's Electric Co, Dr. Bellaire in Saranac Lake, Northwood School in Lake Placid and New York State Sunmount Development Disabilities. Services in Tupper Lake, where she worked until her retirement.

She was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving during World War II. She served as a staff sergeant from May 6, 1943 until Nov. 24, 1946.

She was also a member of the Saranac Lake American Legion. Post 447 for more than 52 years. Mrs. McLaughlin was also a member, of the Saranac Lake Women's Civic Chamber; St. Bernard's Mothers Club, the Home Bureau and she was a Boy Scouts of America den mother. Survivors include two sons: Kenneth J. McLaughlin of Saranac Lake and David H. McLaughlin of Schenectady; a daughter, Mrs. Evelyn A .Wagner of New Milford Conn; a brother, Raymond McCasland of Saranac Lake; six grandchildren including Derek of Saranac Lake and Kirk of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.

An American Legion Service will be held at the funeral home. Friday, at 7:45 p.m.  A bible vigil service will follow.

A Mass .of Christian, burial will take place at. 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake with the Rev. Timothy Soucy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery.

Friends may contribute in her name to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home.
