Edythe Donovan, 89

Mrs. Edythe M. Donovan, 89, a long-time resident of Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake, died Thursday, November 9, at her home at Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

She was born at Birch Island, Upper Saranac Lake, on August 30, 1900, a daughter of William and Ella Hickey Meagher, and was graduated from Saranac Lake High School and attended the Sargent School of Physical Education at Boston University.

Her first husband, William L. Ryan, died in 1944. She later owned and operated Ryan's Greenhouse on Ampersand Avenue, Saranac Lake, and was active in Court St. Bernard, Catholic Daughters of America, of which she was a charter member.

In 1953 she was married to Joseph F. Donovan, Tupper Lake school superintendent for many years. Mrs. Donovan was an active member of the Mercy General Hospital Auxiliary here.

Since his retirement Mr. and Mrs. Donovan had made their home in Florida, where she was active in the Holy Cross Hospital Auxiliary at Fort Lauderdale.

Calling hours were observed Tuesday evening at the Keough & Son Funeral Home, Saranac Lake, where a Bible vigil was held by the Catholic Daughters. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:15 a.m. today at St. Bernard's Church and interment was in St. Bernard's Cemetery at Saranac Lake.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph F. Donovan, Fort Lauderdale; one daughter, Mrs. Warren (Barbara) Dunham of Hudson Falls; one sister, Mrs. Helen LaPan of Rouses Point; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the High Peaks Hospice, in care of the Keough Funeral Home.
